JOYA - The Story

JOYA inventor Ulrich Metz from Germany suffered from painful hip dysplasia for many years. As he was too young for an artificial joint, he began to look for other solutions. However, the only thing that helped ease the pain was a firm massage around the hip bones. But this was extremely strenuous for the masseuse, and after fifteen minutes, it was the helping hands that ached. And the relief he experienced only lasted for a short time.

Uli needed a tailor-made massage tool. Something that could be guided by the masseuse with ease and that I could use on myself at any time. He went to work to design a massage roller with an optimal fit for masseur’s hands, which could be controlled comfortably, easily and close to the body. It had to fit perfectly to the muscles and bones and allow firm, targeted massages without much exertion.

The result is our JOYA Massage Roller Classic. Everybody he showed it to said it was like holding something precious. The search for a name to reflect this quality led Uli to the Spanish word for “treasure” - JOYA.

When Ellen – now owner of JOYA-Australia – was introduced to JOYA by her Shiatsu Therapist in Germany it was love at first touch. She immediately understood that they are treasures even she did not know anything about crystals at this time. She just loved the feeling of the handy JOYA rolling over her tense muscles and  relaxing them with ease. She was so impressed by the concept and benefits of this great product that she immediately tracked down the JOYA- Inventor.

Ellen became the middle-man (or better said middle-woman) for her Shiatsu Therapist who started placing orders for his clients and then their friends and so on. After moving to Australia in 2006 she simply had to bring these treasures here to share the experience. Ellen founded JOYA-Australia in 2007.

Due to the increasing interest and demand of our products, JOYA-Australia decided in 2009 to expand into the Party Plan Business – offering the benefits of home shopping for everybody who loves to catch up with their friends and have a fun time.
