About the Authors
Michael Gienger defined himself as a natural scientist whose research work extends throughout the breadth of natural science. For him, nature was an abundant book in which one can discover and understand the secrets of life simply by observing and immersing oneself in it. He was an autodidact, and his interest in gems and crystals began in his childhood. He is now internationally known, particularly for his work with crystals and gemstones. After studying chemistry and mineralogy at Stuttgart, Germany, he spent five years at the Academy of Druids in Austria learning the art of Shiatsu and shamanistic healing. Since 1985 he has been working with gemstones, studying them both scientifically and in relation to healing practice. His work formed a bridge between science and spirituality; it is for this unique approach that his work is so popular. He was a practising crystal healer and the author of over 20 books on crystal healing. His popular work Steinheilkunde has been published in English under the title of Crystal Healing, Crystal Power, and is the standard English language book on healing with crystals. In 1997 he founded a wisdom school, the Cairn Elen Lebensschule, and many of his students have done great work in this field themselves. Michael Gienger passed away 16. November 2014 after a brief illness.
JOYA-Inventor Ulrich Metz lived in South Africa for a year and there deepened his knowledge and sensitivity for the connections between humans and natural materials. It was there that he first encountered the healing powers of crystals. Some years later, these direct and personal experiences became the impulse behind the JOYA massage roller. Since then, Ulrich has further developed the JOYA principle into other products, which have expanded the possibilities for massage still further. He enjoys developing new tools and is the go to person in Germany for the industry.
